Migrating from WordPress to Blogger and vice versa

Category : Blogging, How to, Tips

Many of you started blogging with Google’s free Blogger service. Many of you still use this great service. Mostly because it is free, easy to use and has almost all  functions needed for the blogger.Though Blogger greatly loses to WordPress when it comes to functionality, flexibility, amount of plugins etc. It is not a secret that majority of professional bloggers choose WordPress as their main blogging service.

However, there are several people who have tried either of the above mentioned blogger services and now want to get back or change for testing.

But what to do when you already have some activity on the current blog, such as posts, comments etc. Here comes the exporting and importing feature on both of the blogger services. First,  let’s talk about migrating from Blogger to WordPress, as it is quite easy to perform.

WordPress already has built in feature for that which can be found on “Tools” menu on the left. Choose “Import” and select Blogger from the list. If you are doing it for the first time then you will have to download and install free “Blogger Importer” plugin for WordPress. After you install and activate it, you will have to authorize it with Blogger. Please note that Blogger account must be logged in and open on the same browser. After successful authorization you will receive a list of your Blogger blogs to import from. Just select the one you want and click on “import” button.

Migrating from WordPress is a bit difficult and requires some skilled individual in order not to lose precious data on the computer. First of all, you need to export your WordPress blog into a separate file. Once you locate the backup file on your machine, please go to WordPress2Blogger site and convert your WordPress backup file into Blogger’s backup file.

Then you need to go to your Blogger dashboard, choose “Settings”, “Basic” and “Import Blog”. Then click on “Browse” button and select your WordPress backup file and click on “Import Blog” button.

That’s it. Leave your comments below if you have any problems or issues regarding the import or export.
